Gradual return to non-urgent care- COVID-19 Update
The College of Optometrists has given us the go-ahead to gradually return to non-urgent care. As always health and safety of our staff and patients is our highest priority. Our COVID-19 policy includes the following steps.
LEARN MORE ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY WE USE
OUR TECHNOLOGY
We strive to provide the best care possible, and this includes having access to the latest in technology.
AUTOREFRACTOR
An autorefractor gives an objective measurement of any refractive error that may require correction. This independent assessment is invaluable when evaluating patients that may have problems communicating, such as young children or those with disabilities.
KERATOMETRY AND PACHYMETRY
These are measurements of the curvature and thickness of the front surface of the eye. This is important in the fitting of contact lenses.
NON-CONTACT TONOMETRY
"That air-puff thing”; the non-contact tonometer is a non-invasive, no-touch way of measuring the pressure within the eye. This is a key in the diagnosis of glaucoma and the monitoring of glaucoma treatment.
RETINAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Digital retinal photography provides a detailed view of the retina and optic nerve. By providing a permanent record of the appearance of the back of the eye, photography is an invaluable tool for evaluating eye health, as it allows your optometrist to monitor any changes to the retina or optic nerve over time.
OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY (OCT)
The latest in diagnostic technology, the OCT is essentially an "optical ultrasound", and provides a rapid, non-invasive view of the structures of the eye at a near-microscopic level. This is proved to be an invaluable tool in the diagnosis of retinal disease, and the early detection of glaucoma.
AUTOMATED VISUAL FIELD ANALYZER
The Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer is the industry standard test used to assess the sensitivity of the eye as well as the extent of the peripheral vision. It is used largely to assess optic nerve function in glaucoma. In addition, visual field tests are useful in the detection of retinal disease, and in the detection of diseases affecting the visual pathways of the brain, including stroke or brain tumours.
OPTOS OPTOMAP
Digital ultra-wide field retinal imaging enables our doctors to discover, diagnose, and treat ocular pathology that may first present in the peripheral retina.
